[000/0003]The Laminated Book
A poem about the inventory of the "More, More, More" and the pages we used to fold.
It arrived like a thud on the hallway floor, a thousand-page brick of "More, More, More." With edges curled and a spine of glue, it held every world that we thought we knew. From the "Jewellery" start to the "Garden" end, it was part-time bible and full-time friend. We flicked through the pages of glossy sheen, at the wonders of life through a paper screen. We’d circle the things that we’d never possess— the hi-fi, the hairdryer, the satin dress— and leave oily prints from a finger and thumb on the "Toys" that we prayed would eventually come. But the gloss has all dulled to a matte-finish grey, and the "Book" has been quietly filed away. Now the dreams are all digital, cold, and thin, and there isn’t a page left to fold a corner in.
